India has become of increasing importance to Apple as it aims to cut its dependence on China for manufacturing. It’s also long been a producer of the iPhone for sale in India itself, because of import costs.

According to Reuters, India’s finance ministry has announced a cut in those import duty fees for a number of components now used in the local manufacture of smartphones. The cut is from 15% to 10% and, amongst others, applies to battery covers, camera lenses, and the GSM antenna.

Apple’s addition of a Crash Detection feature in Apple Watch has been criticized for false alerts, but it’s also repeatedly saved lives. Now the California Highway Patrol (CHP) credits it with how officers were quickly able to locate a crashed car and take the injured occupants to hospital.

According to KTLA, a single Hyundai Sonata with five occupants, crashed into a palm tree on the 15 Freeway at Jurupa Avenue in Ontario, San Bernardino. The car contained five occupants, and it was the Apple Watch belonging to one of the passengers that alerted local authorities.

While the long-running Epic Games vs Apple legal battle appeared to end in mid-January 2024, the “Fortnite” maker has filed a new notice of non-compliance and said it intends to pursue a motion of contempt of court. Epic’s complaint is similar to its accusation of “malicious compliance” over Apple’s new EU App Store rules.

Once the Supreme Court declined to hear either Epic’s or Apple’s appeals, Apple was required to follow the lower court’s anti-steering ruling. Specifically, Apple was to no longer prevent developers from telling customer of alternatives or other offers through their app.
